Annoyed by Siri Announcing Text Message or Call on AirPods? Let’s disable this feature

With the second-generation AirPods, Apple pushed things a step further by adding Hey Siri capability. It also included the option to use Siri to announce messages and calls while wearing your AirPods. In other words, you won’t have to take out your iPhone or iPad every time someone calls or texts you; Siri will handle it for you.

While this is a valuable feature, it may become really irritating, especially if you have a lot of texts or calls coming in while listening to music or working on something essential.

So, how can you disable this function? It’s actually fairly simple, and we’ll teach you how to put an end to it for good, especially if you enabled the announce option while setting up your AirPods.

Step 1: On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.

Step 2: Tap the Siri & Search option.

Step 3: Go to the Announce Calls menu and select Never to turn off the feature.

You may also enable or disable a similar feature on the Apple Watch, depending on the situation and how annoyed you are by voice assistants in general. However, if you’re out for a run or doing something else where your hands aren’t free, a feature like this can spare you from having to stop what you’re doing to see what’s new.

One thing to remember is that this functionality is entirely optional. When you first set up your AirPods, you’ll be asked if you want Siri to read out your messages or notifications. You won’t have to go through the trouble described above if you choose ‘no.’ However, if you did manage to enable it, you now know how to turn it off.
